The Middle East has 5 cities with the fastest internet mobile connection.

  • The Middle East has 4 countries in the top 10 highest average internet speeds globally.
  • The region also has taken 6 out of the 10 spots for cities with the highest average internet speeds globally.
  • The UAE Etisalat had the fastest 5G connection with a median download speed of 680.73 Mbps.

Ookla Global Index updated their rankings for the Global Index which highlights the existence of 5 cities in the Middle East taking up the top 5 spots which is seeing an upward trend of MENA influx over the years.

The majority of those cities are in both Qatar and the UAE, with other countries not falling too far behind like Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Middle Eastern countries ranked in the global top 10:

  1. UAE: Ranked 1st globally with an average speed of 302.38 Mbps.
  2. Qatar: Ranked 2nd globally with an average speed of 285.84 Mbps.
  3. Kuwait: Ranked 3rd globally with an average speed of 196.94 Mbps.
  4. Bahrain: Ranked 9th globally with an average speed of 128.74 Mbps.

Cities ranked in the global top 10:

  1. Ar-Rayyan: Ranked 1st globally with an average speed of 346.45 Mbps, an increase of 2 spots taking the spot that Dubai held.
  2. Abu Dhabi: Ranked 2nd globally with an average speed of 336.22 Mbps.
  3. Dubai: Ranked 3rd globally with an average speed of 334.63 Mbps, dropping down 2 spots from the previous rankings.
  4. Doha: Ranked 4th globally with an average speed of 303.28 Mbps.
  5. Riyadh: Ranked 5th globally with an average speed of 261.43 Mbps.
  6. Kuwait City: Ranked 10th globally with an average speed of 228.12 Mbps.

The UAE was also the fastest 5G market globally in Q2 2023 according to Ookla intelligence data with the biggest network companies in the country providing median download speeds of 556.63-680.73 Mbps globally.
